Apprenticeships are training programmes designed for students of all age groups (above 16 years) who have left full time education and are in employment. Apprenticeships are open to those have just left school, have been working for years or are seeking to start a new career. Apprenticeships are training programmes leading to a National Vocational Qualification at Level 2. Apprentices must be employed within the vocational area.
Government guidelines state that apprentices should be employed for at least 30 hours a week including their time in College; there is flexibility so please discuss individual circumstances at interview.
Entry Requirements
Candidates should be employed in an appropriate engineering organisation and have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above, including Mathematics, English Language and Science, or a BTEC Level 2 qualification in an appropriate area.
Duration
Nominally 48 months, depending on aptitude and experience. Off-the-job full time industrial training in the College Industrial Training Centre for the first 40 weeks of the programme. Alternatively this may take place in the workplace providing the employer has the resources to undertake the foundation stage of training. The remainder of the training takes place in the workplace with attendance at College one day a week to complete the technical certificate requirements of the programme.
