Apprenticeship in Team Leading

This is a work-based qualification suitable for those who undertake management-related activities.  The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills and competences of candidates in the workplace, and provide individuals with an opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed for a career in management and team leading.

Government guidelines state that apprentices should be employed for at least 30 hours a week ; there is flexibility so please discuss individual circumstances at interview.

To achieve the full award, candidates must complete four mandatory units and two optional units.  The mandatory units include:

  • Manage your own resources
  • Provide leadership to your team
  • Develop productive working relationships with colleagues
  • Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety.

Optional units include:

  • Encourage innovation in your team
  • Allocate and check work in your team
  • Provide learning opportunities for colleagues
  • Help team members address problems affecting their performance
  • Participate in meetings
  • Resolve customer service problems.
  • Support customer service improvements.

Advanced Apprenticeship in Management

This Apprenticeship is a work-based learning qualification and is suitable for those who undertake management-related activities.  The aim of this qualification is to provide individuals with an opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed for a career in management. Assessment

Assessment is workplace-based and tailored to the needs of the individual. Assessment is made in the following areas:

  • A competence-based element, resulting in a competency certificate
  • A technical element, leading to a technical skills certificate.
  • A skills element resulting in an English, Maths and ICT skills certificate.

Course Duration

A minimum of twelve months

If you are under 19 on the first day of training, you are fully funded.  All other learners are asked for an employer contribution of £250.

Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership

This is the third of thee levels of study for middle managers, offering insight into best practice across a broad range of management topics.  The course is designed for those with some management experience who want to develop their skills and attain an accredited management qualification.

Entry Requirements

This course is designed for those with management experience and learners should have people management responsibilities.

Duration

This is an eleven day programme of study held over seven months.  The next programme will commence on 24 February 2012

This course is either a two day or three day programme of study. There are two paths to choose for this Certificate:

  • Managing Recruitment and Selection, Human Resource Development and Performance Management              Cost: £750

There are three levels of study for First Line managers – Award, Certificate and Diploma.  To gain the Award, you  may choose from Personal Development, Resource Planning or Meeting Stakeholder Needs.

This Award in First Line management is designed for new and aspiring managers or those with management experience who want to gain an accredited qualification.

Duration

This is a one day course.

This is the second of three leavels of study (Award,Certificate,Diploma) for first line managers offering practical skills.  There are two certificates to choose from – Improving Team Performance and Developing Individuals, and Managing and Communicating Information and Report Writing.

Entry Requirements

The Certificate in First Line Management (Level 3) is designed for new and aspiring managers or those with management experience who want to gain an accredited qualification.

Duration

Held over a two day workshop

Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management

This course offers practical skills to new and aspiring managers, and is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements – this diploma is designed for new and aspiring managers or those with management experience who want to gain an accredited qualification.

Duration

The Diploma in First Line Management is a five day programme, held on a Thursday between 9.30am-5pm. Forthcoming start dates are: 16 February, 1 March, 15 March, 29 March and 12 April 2012. 

Content and Assessment

The following topics will be covered:

  • Resource Planning
  • Meeting Stakeholder Needs and Customer Care
  • Improving Team Performance
  • Developing Individuals and Teams
  • Managing and Communicating Information

Progression
